That's a general misconception, it's not a dangerous country, unless you're foolish enough to go to Kakadu (a must see along with Ulura) and camp near a waterhole...those crocs will get you if you're a dumbass.

The spiders here are dangerous but the snakes are worse, we have something like 20 of the top 50 deadliest snakes in the world, Taipans and Tiger Snakes will kill you in minutes.

But we also have some of the most beautiful and unique animals in the world too; Koala (don't call it a bear!), Platapus, Kangaroo, Wallaby, Goanna, Cassowary among others.

You guys really have to visit someday if you get the chance and Marcus you don't have to move here, just come and visit, you'll love it my friend.

The recent bad weather coincided within weeks of the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami as well as the New Zealand (Christchurch) earthquakes, so I think it was just mother nature getting really pissed off.

Oh don't worry about them Jack, they won't hurt you of you stay south of Northern Australia, but the most dangerous parts of Oz are the most beautiful, so it's well worth it if you're careful.

Haha yeah Drop Bears always seem to get the tourists.

One story I told a couple of American blokes after overhearing them at the pub saying they wanted to go out to a local spot near Coffs Harbour camping and I said to them "Watch out for the Drop Bears" they said "What's a Drop Bear?" mixed with interest and concern and pulled their chairs over to our table and I explained it to them what they were and they said "FUCK THAT! I'm not going out there, this countries dangerous" and that brought huge laughs from the group of mates I was with, I then explained that it was all made up, but the funny thing is they didn't believe me.

Don't get me wrong, I'd goto Australia in a heartbeat but I'd go wrapped in a lot of bubble-wrap lol im terrified of snakes and big spiders lol
