It strikes me as ironic that the same company that kicked World Championship Wrestling off of TNT and TBS because "it didn't fit with the high-class product we're trying to assemble here", and a company that still to this day, edits out curse words in movies that are as mild as "hell"...
...shows what basically amounts to horror content every single night. I just changed the channel away from TNT (what my sister is sleeping to, and I'm listening to in the background) because I was getting tired of hearing, and seeing, a horrifically brutal rape scene. On MONDAY. At 4 in the afternoon, when KIDS ARE HOME. Between all the CSI content, it's a wonder I'm able to sleep at night. (My mother, sister and I are currently sharing a hotel room, and the former two need something to listen to while they're sleeping.)

They also show
Sex and the City
, a bunch of catty middle-aged women laughing about how stupid men are and paring life down into simply fashion and sex. A comedy that isn't funny, and certainly contains questionable content.
And in a sidebar, one thing that ABSOLUTELY KILLS me about entertainment: the fact that people try and argue with me that I don't like/find funny/etc. a particular thing is because I "don't get it" for a reason other than intelligence. For example, I don't get
Sex and the City
because I'm a man. I don't get Tyler Perry's
Madea
horse-hockey because I'm white. I don't get
Harold and Kumar
because I'm not a stoner. I don't get
Cars
because I'm an adult. Jesus, it really gets at me that there's a luxury placed on things in entertainment that appeal to only a certain demographic, and fuck everyone else.
Can't a movie just be made good enough that it can appeal across the boards? This is why
Dark Knight
is successful: truly good films appeal to everyone. I think
Princess Bride
doesn't limit itself to being a sickening romance: it branches out and has things in it that appeal to guys, too, and don't feel like a sidebar. I've always found Dave Chappelle and
In Living Color
and
I'm Gonna Get You Sucka
funny because it's not just "we be black" and that sort of thing; these are all clever and even moderately thought-provoking. I think
Naked Lunch
and
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
and
A Scanner Darkly
and
Waking Life
are really, really good, and I don't even have to be stoned to think so. All the other Pixar movies and
Darkwing Duck
don't pigeonhole themselves into being movies for kids only, and that is why they are awesome.
Perhaps that ran a little long-winded, but that's how I feel. And sorry for derailing the topic.

Yeah, those were probably the weakest analogies I mentioned.
